Downs & Grain is based in East Sussex and takes its name from the South Downs and the natural grain of timber, both of which reflect the influence behind the work and the direction of the business.

I started my carpentry journey at 16 working in joinery, learning the core skills of the trade and building a strong foundation in both first and second fix carpentry. Since then I have worked across both residential and commercial projects, including site work and interior fit outs, gaining hands on experience in a wide range of settings and building methods.

Overall I have been in and around the trade since 2019, developing my skills across joinery, site carpentry, and finishing work on everything from smaller residential jobs through to larger commercial environments. This has given me a practical understanding of how to deliver work that is both precise and suited to real use in everyday spaces.

Downs & Grain is the next step in that journey, focusing on bespoke carpentry and interior joinery. The aim is to create well finished, functional spaces that feel considered and built to last, whether that is media walls, fitted furniture, kitchens, or detailed interior carpentry.

The focus is simple reliable workmanship, attention to detail, and a personal approach to every project, making sure the end result fits the space and the people using it.
